THE RETURN OF THE VELOUR SUIT

So, I heard from a little birdie that the velour suit has found its way back into the scene. Kylie Jenner was seen rocking a Juicy Couture sweatsuit on Instagram  and we've seen it in many lines on the Runway during Fashion Week. The suit got some fun updates and is not so dreaded and stereotypical as when it first emerged. It's comfy, it's textured, it's form fitting. Why wouldn't you want one?

The off the shoulder detail like the one I'm wearing takes a modern twist on this old school ensemble. Dress it up with heels or booties for a casual meets chic vibe. I really took it back with an oversized denim jacket embroidered with Disney's Winnie The Pooh characters. I thrifted this jacket at L Train Vintage. This is one of my favorite thrift stores in NY. They are a chain of privately sourced thrift shops and they have THE BEST vintage denim election you could find. My only issue is that they never seem to have denim jeans in my size (US 6). They're either way smaller or way larger. Otherwise, you're guaranteed to find the dopest denim jackets, cutoffs and soon much more there. I have been thrifting for years now. I mainly starts thrifting for two reasons.

1. I never had the disposable spending money required to shop at fast fashion and higher end stores for every season.
2. I love having unique pieces that nobody else has.

Thrifting has become a very popular shopping trend lately and I am happy about this shift. Not only does it help people find their individual style and get more creative with their wardrobe but it helps reduce waste. The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to worldwide waste. Buying pre-loved pieces is an all around win.

Some of my favorite thrift/reselling shops in NY are as follows

L Train Vintage
No Relation Vintage
Buffalo Exchange
Beacon's Closet
Goodwill
The Salvation Army

I hope you guys enjoyed this post and really consider thrifting instead of shopping at Forever 21 the next time you go shopping!

FAUX THE LOVE OF THE 90s

I've come to the conclusion that I'm living in the past. I love everything about the late 90s and early 2000s. Of course I'm a little bias because those were the years I grew up in and trust me I reveled in all the glory of bubble chairs, chokers, BRATZ dolls, and pink everything. Honestly, I still do.  There's just something so fulfilling about bringing back things from my childhood, with a new twist. I think my style definitely reflects it as well. Satin camis and chokers are one of my favorite modern day 90s looks. Paired with a faux fur jacket screams FAB. Top it off with edgy ripped jeans and black booties to give the look some balance.

BRICK CITY.

Shop this look here

So Winter is here for real now. I don't know if I'm happy or not. I love the Winter (maybe because I'm a winter baby). The frigid air just gives me a strange burst of energy lol am I the only one? But of course comes the problem... WHAT TO WEAR !?!?!?!?!? How does one stay stylish and yet not turn into a walking icicle?  The answer is simple people. LAYERS. Layer until you can't anymore. Literally. Wear as many socks as you can fit into your shoes, wear a camp under your shirts, then a sweater over that and maybe another. Scarves, hats and gloves are life savers and there are so many cute options to choose from that will complement your looks and most importantly keep you warm!

NEW YEAR, WHO DIS?

As you saw in my previous post, I decided to go for the glam look this NYE. My boyfriend was right there beside me - bougie as hell with our furs on feeling like we're on the red carpet lmao. Let me live. Honestly, there's no better feeling than bringing in the new year with your loved ones by your side. My circle has grown smaller and smaller with each passing year as I have been more selective with the energy and type of people I choose to surround myself with. I'm not gonna lie, it's really tough sometimes especially when you realize that certain people who have been in your life for a long time may not be good for you. But honestly, what's not growing is dead. So some relationships are better left in the past.

There's something so refreshing about a new year. I hate when people criticize others for having New Year's resolutions. Since when is setting goals a bad thing ?! We're only human and yes sometimes we do not get to the finish line we created for ourselves, but honestly who are you to judge? People who are concerned with what others are trying to do with their lives - especially when they're only trying to make it better - are just plain old haters. When you're focused and motivated you don't seek validation from others nor do you concern yourself with other people's lives. I know that may seem like a foreign concept to many people in this day & age when keeping up with people's lives is the new norm with the rise of social media. Let's be honest, how many people that you follow would you actually acknowledge if you saw them at the grocery store? Let's all make it a point to focus on bettering ourselves this year in every aspect & to be less concerned with others.

I have a lot of dope stuff in store for you guys! I really hope you enjoyed my last few posts. Please feel free to comment below(:
